Support for the Divorced and Separated
Who Can Benefit?
- Anyone who is contemplating divorce or separation and wants help in making the final decision or support in a decision already made.
- Persons who are going through divorce or separation or are already divorced or separated, who wish support and help in processing the grief, guilt, and cascade of feelings that often accompany this major life transition.
- Partners--either alone or together--who are separated or divorced and who want assistance in communicating and cooperating with one another around their role as parents of their children.
- Divorced or separated parents who want to help their children to process this major life transition.
- Divorced or separated parents who feel alienated from their children and want support and assistance in connecting with them in a nurturing and healthful way.
Why Participate?
- Divorce or separation, though affecting as much as half the population, is still a difficult and challenging transition. Even “amicable” divorces carry an emotional challenge.
- When we are divorced or separated, we suddenly are in a new world, where we often feel a bit out of place with our married friends, and have not yet established a network of single friends.
- Much of the time, divorce and separation follows long months or even years of a power struggle, and the tension between the parties is high. This tension is exacerbated by the legal process. A trained coach or counselor can help in the transition out of the anger and hurt into a new vision of life for you and/or your former partners and a new vision of the relationship, if it continues because of children, for the two of you.
Services Provided
- Divorce Mediation. Provided by an attorney who is clinically trained to address the emotional and psychological factors, as well as the legal issues that affect negotiations regarding custody, visitation, and property distribution. For those who want a fair agreement to resolve conflict that works.
- Counseling and Psychotherapy. For one or both partners, children, the family, or anyone affected who needs the support of counseling.
- Coaching and Facilitation. To facilitate communication among the members of the family, including parent-to-parent and parent-to-child. Coaching seeks a reasonably quick and practical resolution of communication and conflict issues.
- Consulting with Practitioners in Family Law. Help working with you and your client or any family constellation you think will be helpful to ease the anger and bitterness and facilitate communication and cooperation for your client and the family members with whom your client interacts.
